I was really, totally intending to try and wrap up some of my UFO's this year (unfinished objects for the uninititated). I already have so much going on, three four shawls on the needles, a cardi, a cushion and of course I still need to get cracking on the Missoni chevron blanket, so why did I cast on for yet another sweater? Especially when spring (I know today is the first day of spring) may yet be on its way?!
Because of this DKNY sweater I got on clearance at Macys. For $14. That's a steal for a sweater.
My offline friends may have seen me wearing it more than once because I flat out love it. It's blue, its glittery, its lacy with a lovely cable pattern in front and its easy to dress up or down. The perfect layering piece. I've worn it over a shirt, a form fitting turtleneck and just on its own with a matching camisole underneath. It looked fabulous either way.
I think you may notice a few similarities with the sweater I cast on for. It features both cable and lace and is also, I think a perfect layering piece. Which means I can wear it in spring. Since it stays chilly until well into May I should finish it in time for a few uses.
I've cast on using Cascade Eco+ in a lavender colorway. The yarn is categorized as bulky, but it is more of an aran weight. Which results in a drapey fabric even when using 6.5 mm needles. It's sort of scratchy though which I hope a good wash and soak in fabric softener will help. I've decided to work it in pieces as called for in the pattern so the seam can add some structure to all that lace. Also, I've only worked 3 inches in 2x2 rib instead of 7 inches. I'm pretty sure that much ribbing wouldn't look good on me.
Progress so far:

Swatch of the lace and cable pattern

Love the sweater! That looks like a very versatile piece. As to Eco, I find it scratchy too. I used it for a tree skirt, not likely to go against my skin. But I do know others who love it. I prefer alpaca!!!
ReplyDeleteI do prefer alpaca too..its my favorite fiber. But...Webs is selling the discontinued colors for $10.99 a skein. With their generous yardage I find this sweater will cost only @21 in yarn. Can't beat the price! Tree skirt sounds fabulous, like a yarn bomb is it?
